Even with a new manager coming on board at the beginning of last season and the departure of some key players The Bees managed to improve their League standing ever so slightly, finishing 9th, up one place from the previous year. Brentford don’t have the big bucks to throw around on star players, and there lays the rub. Jaden Sancho is leaving Manchester United on a free transfer and Brentford are showing some interest. There are a couple of problems with this though. First up is his sporadic form. He showed lots of promise a few years back but has definitely been off the boil of late. The second problem is even though he is a free agent his weekly wage is a serious concern. He gets somewhere in the region of $220,000 to $250,000 a week. If he wants to stay in the Premier League, he needs to take a wage cut. Someone in Saudi Arabia could probably match that but I don’t see Brentford taking that big of a gamble.
They will be losing Jordan Henderson after a one-year stint and that will save them approx. $90,000 a week. The ex-Liverpool star is 36 years old the Bees fans are split almost 50/50 as far as his departure is concerned. I see a slight decline for Brentford this year. They exceeded expectations last time out, but I think reality will catch up this time around.
