SUMMARY

WEEK 4

After the dust settles on week 4 of the Premier League, we have four teams at the top of the table that haven’t lost, plus three more for a total of seven unbeaten clubs and four teams that haven’t won. Two at the top are who you would expect, Arsenal and Manchester City, while the other two, Leeds and Hull are definitely not. In the basement, I think Tottenham and Fulham will drag themselves up the table. Unfortunately the other two, Coventry and Aston Villa, perhaps not. Hull managed a shock draw at Chelsea, and Fulham did well to contain Liverpool at Anfield. Crystal Palace were busy digging themselves a big hole to climb into, while Coventry and Newcastle had lots of help from their opponents Brighton and Leeds. Manager Frank Lampard at Coventry may need a new job soon if his fortunes do not improve. Richarlison at Tottenham is a man in limbo. For various reasons, his transfer hopes have not materialized and he has been omitted from Tottenham’s roster. Therefore the earliest he can hope to play for anyone won’t be after the January transfer window. In the upcoming week, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arsenal knocked off their perch by Brighton, and I think Leeds can solidify their position in the League by beating a woeful Crystal Palace.

BRENTFORD
The Bees

CHELSEA
The Blues

Odds +1/2 O/U 3 1/2 Odds -1/2
PROGNOSIS: Chelsea should never have let last week’s game against Hull slip away from them. They were lucky to settle for a draw in the end. They know what their problems are and that is why the O/U is 3 1/2 goals. Their defense is as solid as a wet paper bag and plenty of goals are expected. Goals should be forthcoming but in the end, I see the Blues just squeaking out a narrow win. Chelsea -1/2

TOTTENHAM
The Spurs

ASTON VILLA
The Villans

Odds -1/2 O/U 2 1/2 Odds +1/2
PROGNOSIS:  Surely this must be the week that Tottenham break their duck. There is only one team worse than Aston Villa at the moment and that’s Coventry. If Spurs can’t get a result here, then Roberto De Zerbi should start trying to find the exit door. He has a multi-year contract, but the fans are starting to lose patience…and unless something changes really quickly, things are going to get a lot uglier than they are right now. Tottenham -1/2

EVERTON
The Toffees

IPSWICH
The Tractor Boys

Odds -1/2 O/U 2-1/2 Odds + 1/2
PROGNOSIS: This could go pretty close. Everton haven’t lost yet, but their only win was against Crystal Palace…hardly a ringing endorsement. In their three draws, they were very lucky to come away with any points. Ipswich bagged all three points away to Palace last week, and they are feeling good about themselves. This could well, end in a draw, so I’m going to the team that’s getting a slight edge. Ipswich +1/2

NEWCASTLE

HULL
The Tigers

Odds -1 1/2 O/U  2 1/2 Odds +1 1/2
PROGNOSIS: After last weeks shellacking at Leeds, Newcastle have a point to make. Problem is they don’t have much of a team to make that point. Hull have defied all expectations and are unbeaten as of yet. The Tigers’ bubble is going to burst sooner or later, but I’m not sure it’s going to go pop here. Hard to see Newcastle 1-1/2 goals better than any team right now, so I’m going with Hull to keep it close. Hull +1 1/2

HOME AWAY

BRIGHTON
The Seagulls

ARSENAL
The Gunners

Odds +1/2 O/U 2-1/2 Odds -1/2
PROGNOSIS: After hammering the life out of Coventry last week, Brighton have to be feeling good about their chances at home to the League champions. Much like last season, Arsenal are winning games but not really dominating them. Their tactics and style of play leaves a lot to be desired. A good comparison; if you watch Manchester City play, even if they only win by the one goal, they are an entertaining team and can put together some really sweet moves. Arsenal have to be coaxed to play and quite frankly, I find them boring. That being said, I’m going with the home team. Brighton +1/2

NOTTINGHAM FOREST
The Tricky Trees

COVENTRY
The Sky Blues

Odds -1/2 O/U 2 1/2 Odds +1/2
PROGNOSIS: Nottingham Forest are not the most capable team in the League and, as mentioned elsewhere, I think they could well struggle for most of this season. On the other side of the field you have one sorry bunch, Coventry. I have said that I can’t see where the Sky Blues can pick up any points in this League, and I’ll be the first to admit that I had high hopes for them after last years domination of the Championship League. They are finding it tough going and if anything, they seem to be getting worse. Notts Forest should take care of this lot especially since they have the home crowd behind them. Notts Forest -1/2

MANCHESTER CITY

SUNDERLAND
The Black Cats

Odds -1 1/2 O/U 2 1/2 Odds + 1 1/2
PROGNOSIS: City are winning games, plain for all to see. Thing is they are not doing it very convincingly. Just a one-goal edge over Bournemouth, Coventry and Manchester United (you can’t count 4-1 over Crystal Palace, I think there are plenty of pub teams that could beat Palace right now). They are 1-/2 goal favorites over Sunderland, and while I don’t think the Black Cats can win here, they might keep it close. Their 2-0 defeat last week at the hands of Arsenal was not really a true reflection of how that game was going. I think they deserved at least a draw. Anyway for this match-up, I’ll take the spread. Sunderland +1 1/2

BOURNEMOUTH
The Cheeries

LIVERPOOL
The Reds

Odds +1/2 O/U 3 1/2 Odds -1/2
PROGNOSIS: What are the odds that this will end in a draw? Pretty good I’d say. Liverpool have obviously got problems that they are having trouble a) identifying b) fixing. There are a few new faces on the team, and they are all supposed to be top notch performers. All the old faces are playing below their usual levels, with the exception of Milo Kerkez, who seems to have found new levels of incompetence. Maybe it’s the change of manager? Bournemouth can score goals, but they need games that are 85-minutes long and not 90. This really is a toss-up so I’m saying. NO BET.

CRYSTAL PALACE
The Eagles

Odds -1 1/2 O/U 3 1/2 Odds +1 1/2
PROGNOSIS: Leeds at home for the second week in a row. Going on last weeks results, this should be lambs to the slaughter. Leeds are flying high and Palace should present no more of a problem than Newcastle did last week. The Whites should prevail and handsomely. Leeds -1-1/2

FULHAM
The Cottagers

MANCHESTER UNITED
The Red Devils

Odds +1/2 O/U 2 1/2 Odds -1/2
PROGNOSIS: Fulham managed a draw at Liverpool last time out and United were narrowly beaten by Manchester City. United are going to be looking to put things right this week, at Fulham’s expense I fear. Unlike some other teams circling the bottom reaches, I think that Fulham will start to get it together, but they might have to wait a few more weeks before the results start coming. No Bet
