Arsenal finished 2nd in the league last year again all without a traditional #9. I think that is more a testament to the inconsistency of the teams below them instead superior talent on their part. At the end they still ended up 10 points behind League winners Liverpool (who themselves were not quite as good as their point total would imply, despite having only lost four games all season). Arsenal have acquired a real goal scorer in Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting of Portugal. In two years for that team in 102 matches, the Swede striker scored an impressive 97 goals. Granted his opposition in Portugal was perhaps weaker than he will face in the Premier League, but even if he drops his numbers somewhat, he should still be a very welcome addition to the Gunners squad. A fellow Sporting teammate, Christhian Mosquera may also join him in North London from Valencia and has been very impressive at center half. As far as Sporting goes they only paid approx $25 mil for Gyokeres two years ago and are now expected to trade him for approx $70 mil, a nice return if you ask me. If these two make the switch I expect Arsenal to be more consistent and a real force in the Premier League. That being said I still don’t see them winning the League or even ending up #2 again, top four is the best I can see for them.
