Ipswich spent one year in the Premier League (2024- 2025) and were relegated after their brief stay. Not letting the grass grow under their feet, they managed to bounce back immediately and will spend the next season back amongst the “Big Boys”. Although they have a new manager, Gary O’Neil, there haven’t been many upgrades to the team. Their chances of staying up are slim. They seem destined to be be one of those teams that are too good for the Championship League but not quiet good enough for the Top Tier.
The club doesn’t have the big bucks to obtain the needed players, and Ipswich isn’t exactly an area that most footballers want to relocate to. They aren’t called the Tractor Boys for nothing and being called “carrot munching yokels” (Jim Magilton, former town manager) does not sound very appealing to prospective signings. Another short stay in the Premier League I’m afraid and a quick return to the lower level. I hope I’m wrong about this one as it’s nice to see some fresh blood in the League.
