A very disappointing season for Chelsea last time out. To finish right in the middle of the pack is not good enough for a team with Chelsea pedigree. There were mitigating factors at play. The World Cup Club Championship, a waste of time, in my opinion did not leave the players enough time to recuperate. Changing managers midstream and then changing again didn’t help. Cole Palmer completely losing his form was also another problem. New manager Xabi Alonso has some very definite ideas of how to go forward and shelling out North of $120 mil on Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa underscores Chelsea’s determination to get back amongst the silverware. A slew of other signings will change the way Chelsea look this year. The only dark spot.
Mykhailo Mudryk. He was given a four-year ban in 2024 for testing positive for a banned drug. Somehow this has been reduced, and he is available for Chelsea effective immediately. But here’s the problem. At the moment he is probably not match fit. Also, Chelsea have just unloaded, waste of oxygen, Alehandro Garnacho. Mudryk fills his space to a tee. Even with the illegal drugs he was still useless. The sooner Alonso realizes this the better off Chelsea will be. Lots of variables here, The Blues will improve over last year’s efforts, that’s a no brainer, but by how much? Maybe 4 or 5 places but that’s it for me.
