Even when things weren’t going right Manchester City still managed to finish second in the League. The loss of key players, injuries, the decline of form by some guys and at times the look of fatigue all conspired to peg Pep Guardiola team back a notch. With all that against them they still managed to be 7 points clear of the next team below them. With a new manager, Enzo Maresca, taking over this next season could be a little more of a challenge than they are used to. John Stones has left on a free transfer to Inter Milan. Rodri could be leaving for Real Madrid if terms can be agreed on. City do not want to lose their mid-field general. They fear a repeat of the 24/25 season when Rodri was absent for an extended period of time and the team all but collapsed without him.
They have not been very active in the transfer market and there are a lot of questions to be asked. Will Maresca be able to pick up were Pep left off? Are they going to lose Rodri? Will Phil Foden regain some of the promise he has shown in recent years? It’s particularly hard to predict were City are going to end up this year. At a push I would say they may drop a place or two, but I wouldn’t be putting the grocery money on it.
