Palace have not made any significant moves in the transfer market as of writing. A drop of 3 places over the previous year should be a warning but no-one in SE London seems to be paying much attention. They did sell central defender Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea for around $60 million, a tidy profit considering they only paid about $20 million for him. That seems to be their game plan. An approach that is adopted by many football teams. Find a promising player, buy him cheap and a few years later unload him at a good profit. Over the last few years Palace have made over $180 million profit selling Eberechi Eze, Maxence Lacroix, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Michael Olise. While this may be a sound business model eventually the team, and the fans, suffer. Selling your best talent and not being able to replace them is a recipe for disaster.
They do start the season with a new manager, Pierre Sage, maybe he can make a positive impact. Finishing 15th last year, just above the relegation zone should send the alarm bells ringing. Without any new talent of note arriving, I think Crystal Palace could well be flirting with an uncomfortable year and dropping out of the Premier League could well be on the cards.
